Designed by Max Wexler and David Abell, the Laguna Phuket Golf Club opened in 1992 - originally named the Banyan Tree Golf Club.
Laguna - Phuket's only resort-based, 18-hole golf course - measures 6,654 yards and 5,464 yards from the back and front (ladies') tees respectively. Built in an area of disused tin mines-turned-lagoons, the course features plenty of water hazards. Tropical palm trees and a backdrop of heavily wooded hills combine to make this one of Phuket's most scenic courses.
Currently, new memberships are available only to those who buy one of the Laguna Golf Properties, although 30-year memberships are traded from time-to-time by departing expats.
Laguna's award-winning clubhouse features the Banyan Café with air-conditioned and outdoor dining, a well-stocked pro-shop and equipment rental. You'll also find a driving range, chipping areas and practice putting greens and bunkers as well as a golf teaching 'academy' with PGA professionals in attendance - and a if your round of golf has left you weary, the adjacent Banyan Tree Spa will work wonders.
Non-members are welcome to play at Laguna. Green fees start 3,600 Baht during low season. Players must use the caddy services for an additional 250 Baht. Golf carts are not available - so you may want to think about playing in the early morning or late afternoon, when the temperatures are more forgiving.
